Neurological Support: Bell’s Palsy Treatment
At Tensegrity Acupuncture in Las Vegas, we provide comprehensive care for neurological conditions such as Bell’s Palsy. Bell’s Palsy is characterized by the disruption of the Facial Nerve (CNVII), leading to facial weakness or paralysis. This condition can cause pain or discomfort around the jaw and behind the ear, ringing in one or both ears, headache, loss of taste, hypersensitivity to sound on the affected side, impaired speech, dizziness, and difficulty eating or drinking. Symptoms may also include twitching, weakness, or paralysis on one or both sides of the face, drooping of the eyelid and corner of the mouth, drooling, dryness of the eye or mouth, impairment of taste, and excessive tearing in one eye. Symptoms typically begin suddenly and reach their peak within 48 hours, resulting in significant facial distortion.
Treatment Approach:
In Western medicine, Bell’s Palsy is often attributed to a viral infection such as viral meningitis or the herpes simplex virus (common cold sore virus). Treatment typically involves the use of steroids and antiviral drugs.
Our Approach:
At Tensegrity Acupuncture, we offer a holistic approach to treating Bell’s Palsy. Our treatment focuses on addressing the underlying causes of the condition and promoting overall health and well-being. We utilize acupuncture to stimulate specific points on the body, which can help restore the flow of Qi (vital energy) and blood, reduce inflammation, and relieve pain. We also incorporate other modalities such as cupping, Gua Sha, and dermal roller to enhance the effects of acupuncture and promote healing.
Our Exam Protocol:
During your visit, we will conduct a thorough examination, which may include raising both eyebrows, closing both eyes tightly, smiling, puffing out the cheeks, pursing the lips, and showing both upper and lower teeth (grimace). This helps us assess the extent of your condition and determine the best course of treatment.
Treatment Plan:
Patients with Bell’s Palsy are typically seen twice a week for approximately ten treatments. Treatment may include addressing Blood Stagnation and Liver Blood stagnation, Lung Wind invasion (wind cold or wind heat), and Spleen Qi deficiency. Specific treatment points may include LI4 on the opposite side of palsy or bilaterally, ST 36, scalp points on the motor lower 2/5 on the opposite side, ear points such as Shen Men and Face, and motor points based on neuropathy.
